Awe Moment of the Day

Today's awe moment of the day deals with the paradox of life and death.

Rest in Peace Steve Jobs

"Death is very likely the single best invention of life. All pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure, these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important."

Here's another one from one of my favourite books (Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder):

"As soon as I concentrated on being alive now, the thought of dying also came into my mind. The same thing happened the other way around: only by conjuring up an intense feeling of one day being dead could I appreciate how terribly good it was a to be alive. It was like two sides of a coin that I kept turning over and over. And the bigger and clearer one side of the coin became, the bigger and clearer the other side became too... You can't experience being alive without realizing that you have to die... But it's just as impossible to realize you have to die without thinking how incredibly amazing it is to be alive."

Paradoxes are hard to chew on, aren't they? But once it's digested, its medicine stays in your blood forever.
