Mare Vaporum: Sea of Vapour

My teacher (for... movement, I guess? There's no category) had a performance in Little Tokyo's JACCC so I went to support him. It was a mystical night.

I couldn't take my eyes off of the performance, to the point where my eyes became bloodshot and my friends asked if I was crying. My head was spinning around, seeing, recognizing, linking things in such a rapid pace that it felt almost serene... as if I was traveling so fast that everything around me blurred into one colour and everything felt still.

Crossroads: Guidepost to the World

I love this place. It makes me feel like there are endless possibilities, that the world is a bigger place than I think it to be, that there is so much more out there to learn... which of course, is always exciting.

The Voices of the State

While heading over to Little Tokyo...

Which made me think about what I read in Peter Brooks' The Empty Space:

"I can take any empty space and call it bare stage. A man walks across this empty space whilst someone else is watching him, and this is all that is needed for an act of theatre to be engaged."

Then I thought of what Anne Bogart said about the 'violence' of theatre, how theatre was, is and will always be an act of provoking thought. That's why it's violent.

Then... I witnessed theatre walking to Little Tokyo. The action of the people, observed by me, which provoked the thought of the state of State!

Awe Moment of the Day: Even Today I Miss..

...the daily quotes given to us every morning that would open up new doors and bring in the Breath of Life into our lives, our art and our beings. And when I feel the loneliness and anxiety of the future, I read:

Artists of the world, may your many different paths all lead to that infinite Ocean of beauty where wonder becomes awe, exhilaration, unspeakable joy.

-Pope John Paul II
Letter of His Holiness Pope John Paul II To Artists (1999)

...and I know that my path is an awe evoking, exhilarating and unspeakable one that is worth every blood, sweat and tear.

Let it blind you and open your eyes!

It's All About Texture

The 5th Taste

Umami is a Japanese word that has no English translation. The closest variant is 'savory' but it's quite not right. There are 4 tastes the tongue can taste: sweet, sour, spicy and salty. However, umami is the 5th taste.

Superfluous Beauty

Lamp posts and palm trees... how LA can you get?

A majestic blue

The Macabre Gothic Punny Tim

I just got back from an amazing trip to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for the special Tim Burton exhibition. It was needless to say an extremely creative exhibition, filled with sketches, doodles, clips, installations, figurines and more! I love how they show his signature style being developed instead of just showing what he is known for out there. There were tons of doodles and sketches he drew as a child and as a 'bored Disney animator student.'

Note: No pictures were allowed but I sneaked! That's why it's at an odd angle.

Entrance: 'tis blurry but I like it

Tim always puts a pun on things--like this Little Red Riding Hood drawing!

"Never shoot a constipated poodle"

"Blind man with permanent seeing eye dogs"

THE Edward Scissorhands costume. Blurry but I was rushing since there was a security guard in the room

Favourite wall. Love the blue ink drawing.

Favourite wall revisited again =)
